Klemzig sits in inner north-eastern Adelaide inside the City of Port Adelaide Enfield, founded in 1838 as a German Lutheran settlement on market-garden land along the River Torrens. The surviving streetscape is overwhelmingly post-war, dominated by detached brick and brick-veneer family homes built through the 1950s and 1960s, with later semi-detached homes, courtyard villas and unit blocks layered in closer to O.G. Road and the Klemzig Interchange. Almost nothing of the original 1838 village remains above ground.
